Transferring  Beads or Seeds with Tweezers

Suitable Age: 2 1/2+

Materials: 

  • A tray
  • a small bowl with beads/seeds
  • a soup saver pad
  • Tweezers

Direct Aim:

The child gains experience of sorting using tweezers.

Indirect Aim:

  • Hand/finger muscle refinement
  • Concentration
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Independence

  1. Silently show the child the three fingers he will be using and visually show the child the manner in which he will be using the three fingers to grasp the tweezers
  2. Pick up the tweezers, performing the same finger movement, this time picking up a bead. Place one bead/seed at a time inside the grooves of the soap saver.
  3. After a few beads have been placed, invite the child to try if he wishes.
  4. Once the child has placed all the beads on the soap saver, invite the child to turn the tray and repeat the activity.

Point of interest:

Using Various Colours of beads/seeds, the soap saver, and the tweezers.

Control of Error: 

  • Dropping the seed/bead
  • Difficulty holding the tweezers in the correct manner or holding them too high/low
  • Difficulty to complete the activity
  • Forgetting to turn the tray to replace the items into the bowl
